Sustainababy is the Innovation category winner in the 2012 Advantage SA Regional Awards Far North Region.

The Advantage SA Regional Awards are held annually to celebrate and showcase the achievements of individuals, groups and organisations that have made significant contributions to regional South Australia.

The awards aim to:

  • Recognise people, enterprises and initiatives that have made a significant contribution to their region and the State over a twelve month period

  • Publicly recognise and reward excellence
  • Promote annual celebrations for regional South Australia and offer networking opportunities for nominees/entrants.

Despite being a finalist in several local and national awards since our inception in 2010, this is the first award Sustainababy has won. Welcome Cloth Nappy Hunters

It's that time of year again when housework piles up and phone calls go unanswered as cloth nappy addicts search for the elusive icon hidden on Australia's favourite small online business websites.

The Cloth Nappy Hunt is an internet scavenger hunt that showcases many fabulous businesses run by Work at Home Mums (WAHMs). Registered hunters have from the 1st to 30th of September to trawl through the many sponsor websites to find as many icons as possible.

Thousands of dollars in prizes are up for grabs to those who find the most icons, find them the quickest, or simply who win the prize draw of the day.

If you haven't yet registered for the Hunt, click here to submit your details and start the fun. You'll also receive an exclusive discount code to use in participating online stores during the month.

In order to find the icon hidden in the Sustainababy store, you will need to complete our mini hunt. Simply use the clues (from 9am on Saturday 1st September) to help direct you to the icon. If you get stuck, refer to our hint thread.

Welcome Christopher Lee

By: Laura Trotta

I'm sure all mothers will agree that there's nothing quite like meeting your newborn baby for the first time. Not even having one child already quite prepared me for the joy I've felt this past week when welcoming my second child into the world.

Exactly one week ago I was still pregnant, excited with the knowledge I'd meet my unborn child soon but a little sad my special one-on-one time with my then only son Matthew was drawing to a close. How silly was I! On Wednesday last week Christopher Lee was born, a healthy boy weighing 8lb 11oz (3950g). Despite being hit by the caesarean truck, nothing could dampen the elation I felt when our accommodating obstetrician broke with surgical convention to pass him through the sterile field directly onto my chest.

Christopher's first feed in recovery was a dream and he hasn't looked back since. Older brother Matthew is besotted with his "new baby" and appears to be adjusting to the loss of his only child status well.

Don't get me wrong - this past week has not been without its challenges. Recovering from surgery on top of caring around the clock for a newborn is no mean feat and sleep has been far from plentiful. But I wouldn't change anything for the world. I have two healthy boys and feel more complete than at any other time of my life.

My husband Paul and I would like to personally thank you all for your support, congratulations and well wishes during this special time. A special thank you to Stacy and Susanne who are doing a fantastic job tending to your online orders and serving you face-to-face at our local market stall in my absence.

Laura

Sustainababy Eco Tip Competition Winner

Image source: Global Exchange Fair Trade Blog

In February 2012 many of our followers submitted their best eco parenting or green living tip for their chance to WIN a $200 Sustainababy gift voucher. Tips were published daily on our Facebook page and we kept a tally of likes, comments and shares to determine the most popular tip and winner.

Many innovative tips were submitted and we'd like to thank all who entered or commented on the tips for sharing their ideas with our environmentally-conscious community.

We are proud to announce Sharyn Williams as the winner with this tip:

"Use what you have for art/craft stuff for children and recycle where possible, i.e. keep any old mail/envelopes for drawing on; cut up old clothes/bras and use the material, buttons, zippers for craft; if you do want to buy "cheap craft" items where possible pull apart and reuse once craft item is no longer needed; use everyday items such as toilet paper rolls, egg cartons; make own play dough; use painted butchers paper for wrapping up presents etc."

Congratulations Sharyn! We'll be in contact shortly with your voucher details.
